Alex’s passing in a recent accident has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the entire motorsports community.
Alex was far more than an accomplished driver; he was a cornerstone of the early drifting movement in the United States. Long before drifting became widely recognized, Alex was pushing boundaries with a level of skill, aggression, and technical ability that placed him far ahead of his time. Watching him drive in the early 2000s was like witnessing the precision and flair of the Japanese legends who inspired a generation. In 2001, few could replicate even half of what Alex was capable of behind the wheel. He was fearless, innovative, and undeniably gifted.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and a graduate of Kaimuki High School, Alex carried his island roots with pride. After relocating to California, he continued to chase his passion for racing and automotive culture, eventually building a lasting presence in Sonora. His journey through motorsports included early days at Jim Russell Racing School at Sonoma Raceway, where his dedication and bold personality quickly set him apart. Even then, his belief in drifting — at a time when few understood it — demonstrated his vision and determination.
To many, Alex was a big brother in drifting. He mentored, inspired, and challenged those around him. His favorite pastime was “talking story,” sharing experiences, laughter, and lessons from years spent at the track.
