Today, the family of Wabash Park Camp & Retreat Center gathers in deep sorrow as we mourn the passing of one of our cherished counselors, Kinsley Gruss. Her loss is felt profoundly across our entire camp community — among staff, campers, volunteers, and friends whose lives were forever changed by her faithful presence.
Kinsley’s life was a beautiful reflection of Christ’s love. In every interaction, she demonstrated kindness, compassion, and a servant’s heart. Whether she was leading activities, offering encouragement to a homesick camper, or supporting a fellow staff member through a long day, she did so with joy and sincerity. She created spaces where young people felt truly seen, valued, and loved — not for who they hoped to become, but for exactly who they were.
Her ministry was not confined to scheduled programs or campfire devotions. It lived in the quiet conversations, the shared laughter at a banquet table, and the teamwork formed while serving on retreat and awakening teams. Those who had the privilege of serving alongside her witnessed a faith that was genuine and steadfast. She did not simply speak about Christ’s love — she embodied it.
Many are struggling to find words that adequately express the heartbreak of this loss. Just days ago, friendships were strengthened around shared meals and shared service. The suddenness of her passing leaves an ache that feels almost impossible to comprehend. And yet, even in our grief, we hold tightly to the promises of our faith. Scripture reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God, and that through Christ, death is not the end but the beginning of eternal life.
Kinsley’s legacy will continue in the countless campers who carry forward the lessons she taught, the confidence she nurtured, and the faith she modeled. Seeds she planted through simple acts of love will continue to grow for years to come.
We ask our entire community to join us in prayer for her family, friends, and all who loved her. May God’s peace surround them, His comfort sustain them, and His hope carry them through the days ahead.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
